Ruth E. Allison

January 25, 2003

 

Ruth E. Woolley Allison passed away Friday January 24, 2003 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.  She was born May 11, 1921 in New York City but moved to Silsbee, Texas with her family as a young child.  After graduating from Silsbee High School in 1938 she lived in several towns in Southeast Texas before settling in Jasper to stay for many years.  Ruth was very active in her childrens lives and was a past PTA president and Cub Scout leader.  She touched the lives of many Jasper children when she owned and operated The Playschool from the late 1950s until 1970. Starting by serving as District Judge V.O. Easleys personal secretary, Ruth spent many years working in the Law profession with firms Baker and Botts, and Mayor, Day, and Caldwell, both in Houston.  She was a member in good standing of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators, the Methodist Womens Group, and the Jasper Womens Civic Club.

 

Ruth is preceded in death  by her parents Mr. And Mrs. E.P. Woolley, two sisters, one brother, husband George E. Allison, and son John Robert Allison. 

 

She is survived by her son George Allison and wife Pat Allison of Ft. Worth, daughter Mary Linda Bennington and husband Paul Bennington of Mesquite, daughter Anne Allison-Smith and husband Paul Smith of Spring, daughter Susan Briggs and husband Larry Briggs of Mandeville, Louisiana, and brother Edward Woolley and wife Jewel Woolley of Cleburne.

 

Her grandchildren are Amy Davis of Mesquite, Jennifer Nelson and husband Greg Nelson of Cypress, Molly Haffner and husband Steve Haffner of Ft. Worth, George William Allison of Ft. Worth, Shannon Tallent and husband Troy Tallent of Mesquite, Jason Meade and wife Renita Salinas of Spring, Jodi Willis and husband Ralph Willis of Jasper, Sarah Smith of Austin, Joseph Briggs and Jacob Briggs of Mandeville, Louisiana.

 

Her great grandchildren are Corbett Davis, Kyle and Steven Nelson, Matthew and Allison Hart Haffner, Shelby Tallent, Nicolas and Ava Meade.

 

Pallbearers are Jerry Allison Jordan, Tommy Allison, Bobby Allison, John Thomas Allison, Wesley Allison, and Charlie Pickle.  Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Meade, Joey Briggs, George William Allison, Jake Briggs, Richard Jordan, Michael Paul Woolley and Edward Byerly.

 

There will be visitation at Stringer Funeral Home at 5 PM, followed by a rosary at 7 PM  in Jasper Monday, January 27.  Funeral Services will be at Stringer at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 28 followed by graveside services at Magnolia Springs Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital of Houston 1515 Holcomb Blvd. Houston, TX 77030.
